Anonymous asked: I just read your article on Basquiat's aesthetic and its influence on this generation. Though well written I find some fundamental flaws in your line of thinking. I'll argue that there is nothing truly novel about Basquiat's aesthetic to a non-western audience. You are aware that within Western society there is a very myopic , stiffling view of "blackness". This is a...
icedoutlighthouse asked: i enjoyed reading your piece on the new inquiry, and it made me think: given the slightly broader context of malcolm x and his appraisal of the conk as a hairstyle of submission, does the enduring legacy of basquiat's hair not create a similar requisite of coiffed conformity to signal allegiance to worlds-apart values? and, do we really base trust on how one styles their hair?

Journal Entry - 08/07/11 10:38 pm est
I look down and see a rotting pile of dog poop sitting in the grass next to the lamppost that I always stay beneath to sit and read and think and be with myself. It’s opposite the little river that runs along the entire pathway. A modest stream rather, populated with ducks and swans and other water fawn (of which the sign at the entrance to the path has instructed us not to feed). I stand...

Madbury Mentions Me
Believe it or not folks, I’ve somehow managed to get my name mentioned among the hallow halls of the Madbury Club.
Like any other regular reader of the Madbury Club, I’ve been checking their website almost daily since their unexpected crash, for some sign of life or activity. Lo and behold, upon visiting Madbury yesterday, I was surprised to find a message featured on the site from a...

I Envy the Naked
I long to escape this treacherous reality, to make good on my promise and just disappear. I dream of liberation. My innate passions cry out to me. As clearly as my cry on the day that I was born. I’m trapped. Behind a wall of adversity, behind the murderers of visions, and the shouts of the anti-free. To truly escape this. To be pure, sincerely naked. I’ll break off these chains and...

My Newest Short Film: “Wholly Aware”
Although I’ve done it before, I’m always unsure of how to present these sorts of things. Whenever I create and release a film, I feel the desire to explain my thought process behind the concepts I was trying to explore, and the inspirations behind the piece. It’s finding the best way to convey all of this that always stumps me....
Anonymous asked: Being that you're such a good photographer and your sense of aesthetic quality is so acute and wholesome, why don't you take better pictures of yourself? It seems to me sometimes as if you post good pictures of everyone except yourself

The Making of "Wholly Aware", Part 3
Being a photographer, any time you place a camera in my hand and give me interesting subjects…I give in to the urge to photograph them. The filming of Wholly Aware was no different. Rachel and Will obliged me, in between helping me film and sitting there, respectively. Much appreciated guys. Two of my favorite redheads.
I must include a pic of Rachel’s shoes. They were so full...

The Making of "Wholly Aware", Continued...
Making this film was terrific fun. Up to that point, it was definitely the most forethought and planning I’d put into any piece I’d ever shot. The result was me getting to boss around my “crew” and shout out instructions (by crew I mean mainly Rachel and Andre. Like I said…Will really just sat there.)
don’t give me that look Will. you know i’m being...
