Folks, I’d like to introduce you to a friend of mine, who goes by the name of Michael Romeo (yes that’s his real name). He’s unquestionably one of the biggest dandies I’ve ever come across, with a penchant for the flamboyant. Still though, he manages to pull off everything he dons with a certain amount of class and grace. One of the most amazing things about style is how individual it can be. And there are few people I know that embody this idea as much as Michael. We got together not too long ago and produced some beautiful images. Just a quirky photographer and his quirky subject. Nothing more. Nothing less.

If you ever come across anyone else that can don a fur coat, dark-wash denim, and cowboy boots all at once without looking gimmicky, be sure to send me a picture. It’s not an easy thing to do.

Candace - Scene&Heard Promo Shoot

A natural beauty and a fantastic model. Some subjects just make a photographer’s job easy. Candace was that kind of model.I loved her unique aesthetic and eclectic demeanor. And her Africa earrings? Brilliant.

Scene&Heard: The Fashion Show

Good fortune has blessed me with the glorious opportunity to work with the university’s Public Relations Society, in order to put on an upcoming fashion show that has the makings to be one of Nashville’s most memorable fall events. 5 elite area designers. 50 area models. 1 charitable cause. 1 fantastic night. That’s the idea behind Scene&Heard, whose proceeds will go to benefit Soles4Souls (a commendable non-profit that provides shoes to those who couldn’t afford them otherwise).

Recently I, along with the masterminds behind Scene&Heard and about a dozen of the show’s models, got together for a promotional video/photo shoot. It was the first formalized shoot I’ve done of any sort. To say the least, it was a learning experience and quite a bit of fun. Of course, I shall be sharing with you all the fruits of that day’s labor.

If you’re going to be in the Nashville area this Sunday evening and are even remotely interested in attending Scene&Heard, don’t hesitate to send me a message or email me at thecreativeroutine@gmail.com.

Portraiture is among the most intimate art forms. There seems to be something quite experimental in its very essence. It’s always interesting to take the different perspectives and emotions of a certain subject and combine them into one cohesive unit, almost as sort of an analysis of the different intangibles that makes that person who they are. It’s also pretty fascinating to combine into one image, perspectives from different subjects, and compare their similarities and differences.

All that being said, I had great fun playing with the different shots and angles I got of my friends Katie and Scott. Experimenting and combining different head shots to see what came of it.

What do you guys think?

In the past I’ve noted/complained about how frustrating it can sometimes be as a photographer to have a substantial amount of images of everyone but yourself. We’ve all heard of a tripod and self-timer, but it never truly hit me as to how remarkably simple it was to document one’s self. Literally all that is needed is the aforementioned tools and a fair amount of initiative.

It really is a learning experience. What started off as a mere desire to capture quality images of myself has developed into a sort of personal case-study. I’ve come to realize that self-portraiture isn’t narcissism, it’s self-evaluation.

It’s something that I definitely wish to continue in the future. Because even when taken at mere face value, the project has been boundless fun.

Of late, it seems like I’ve had a camera everywhere I’ve gone. Impromptu photo shoots and tireless editing have been the name of the game this past couple weeks. All in all though, I’ve been able to capture some pretty spectacular images, spanning several collections. Here’s a preview on some of the stuff I’ve been working on, from a few different shoots. If you like what you see, be sure to let me know. There’s definitely more to come. Aesthetically pleasing images for your viewing pleasure.
