My Newest Short Film: “Wholly Aware”
Although I’ve done it before, I’m always unsure of how to present these sorts of things. Whenever I create and release a film, I feel the desire to explain my thought process behind the concepts I was trying to explore, and the inspirations behind the piece. It’s finding the best way to convey all of this that always stumps me. There’s so much I can say about this film.
For those of you that have been following TheCreativeRoutine since the early days, you may recall the Blue Scholars interview I posted back in October. They cover several topics in the video, but what I want to focus on is their thoughts on imitation, influence, and creativity…particularly their thoughts on the concept “the spectacular fail.” The “spectacular fail” is what the Blue Scholars deem to be the original creation that occurs when creativity is combined with influence and inspiration. They talk about this especially in regards to film, which is why I bring it up. You can fast forward to about 2:40 to watch it, although I recommend watching the entire video if you have time. But I digress, back to my film.
Wholly Aware is ultimately an art piece about the process of inspired creation, “the art of making art.” I considered going into more depth on my thought process and inspirations right now, but that many paragraphs in one post is a bit much lol. So I’ll save it for a later post. Besides, I’d rather you all watch the film before delving deeper into my thoughts behind it.
But I shall say no more! Here it is: Wholly Aware. Please don’t hesitate to respond with any thoughts or questions, positive or negative.
Cheers folks.
